Winter time is here and the fishing is GREAT!!!! Whether you want to stand "on the water" and fish through a thick layer of ice or get out on the river and present those flies upstream to trick those trophies we chase!

Cimarron River: The river is frozen from Tolby campground to the Pallisades, where you will start finding open water to fish. With the warmer conditions, the river will increase in flow from time to time bringing all the fish out of their hiding spots. Fishing is good using Chonomids, emergers, egg pattern, glass duck, and small pheasant tails.

Eagle Nest Lake: As of Sunday, the ice was reported as being between 9 and

10 inches thick and the lake was open to foot traffic only. Fishing was good

using small ice jigs, worms and wax worms for perch. Fishing was fair using ice

jigs, worms and Power Bait for trout. Fishing for all other species was slow. For

updated ice conditions contact the State Park office at (575) 377-1594.

Red River: Water flow near the hatchery on Monday was 26 cfs. Trout fishing

is good using egg patterns, wooly buggers, small pheasant tails, chronomids, glass duck

Rio Grande River: Fishing is good using leeches, wolly buggers, gummy worm fly, hot stones, and chronomids

Rio Costilla closed until 06/01/2015!

***Waters around Eagle Nest New Mexico The browns are spawing and full of eggs but the fishing is still great! Please be gental with the brown trout during this time of year and do your best to keep them in the water so that the can have a strong healthy spawn this year.******

Eagle Nest Lake

As of the 1st Salmon Season opened. As of today they are lining up on the small inlets on Eagle Nest Lake. Time to get out here while the meat is fresh!!

Reports of a Few Pike being taken on Dynamic lures and have been spotted by multiple anglers following their lures close to the banks.

Trout fishing has been fair to good using pistole petes power bait and wolly buggers

Perch are still being caught with wolly buggers pistol petes and sprinners/spoon lures

Cimarron River

Flies have been most prouctive. Pheasant Tails, hares ears, price nymph, emergers and terrestrials on top! Small Adams and Flash mayflys are also working well in sunny conditions.

salmon eggs power bait and spinners have also been productive through the river and Gravel Pit Lakes

Red River
