Eagle Nest Fly Shack Annual Pike Tournament
Eagle Nest Fly Shack & Lodge puts on an annual pike tournament at the beginning of the season first weekend in June. Memorial Day
Memorial Day is considered the start of the season here in Eagle Nest and the Enchanted Circle although there are things to do in the area year-round. In Eagle Nest, Laguna Vista Resort puts on Fest in the Nest which is free to enter and Red River hosts a bike rally.
Nashville to New Mexico
Nashville to New Mexico annual event is a writers round showcasing some of Country music’s top hit songwriters. Brought to you by Billy Dawson. 4th of July celebration and Fireworks
The Village of Eagle Nest puts on an annual 4th of July event for the Moreno valley. The day is filled with a parade through the main village street, a festival in the park with vendors and live music, the Eagle Nest Volunteer Fire Department BBQ, activities at various shops in the village and comes to a finally with fireworks being shot over Eagle Nest Lake! Eagle Fest
Eagle Fest in Eagle Nest New Mexico is music and hot air balloon festival. FishFest
Enjoy a long weekend of fishing on Eagle Nest Lake in September. Fishing tournament with cash and prizes. To make sure this event is still happening, call 575-377-6941.
Salmon Snagging Season
October 1- December 31 mark salmon snagging season in eagle nest lake. Eagle Nest Lake is home to kokanee salmon but they are stock dependent so success will be determined based on stocking provided by New Mexico Game and Fish.
Changing of the Leaves
Eagle Nest and the surrounding areas have an abundance of aspen trees sprinkled throughout the forests. Typically, during the end of September beginning of October, the aspens begin changing to a wonderful amber and yellow color creating a picturesque sight through the mountains. One of our favorite places to visit during the changing of the leaves is the Cimarron Canyon where you can go through sections that feel like a tunnel of changing leaves.
Ice Fishing
Eagle Nest Lake is one of the few lakes in New Mexico that fully freezes over and allows the opportunity for ice fishing atop the frozen lake. During this season you will see the lake top sprinkled with a combination of tents and people sitting outside atop the ice. The possibility to catch Northern Pike, Rainbow Trout, Perch, and Salmon through a hole cut in the ice is an experience not to be missed. Eagle Nest Fly Shak & Lodge provides guided ice fishing trips as well as rentals of ice fishing gear if you wish to DIY. The ice fishing season is temperature-dependent and a typical season runs from 1-8 weeks. The opening of the ice fishing season is determined by the quality of the ice and New Mexico State Parks.
