The Mystery of the Rainbow Trout: Understanding the stocking of only Triploid Rainbow Trout in New Mexico and What is a Triploid
In New Mexico, every stocked Rainbow is a Triploid a sterile fish with three sets of chromosomes. Created in hatcheries using pressure, temperature, or even specialized UV radiation, these fish don't waste energy on spawning. Instead, every calorie goes toward growth, allowing them to reach "trophy" size quickly to meet high angler demand and generous bag limits.
